Is adding a colostrum supplement indicated for use in adults?

We sat down with Board Certified Physician, Dr. Blair Thwaites to see if the Colostrum craze, which is rapidly trending on social media, is effective for consumption in adults. Her response was as follows:

Colostrum is a nutrient-dense fluid that we get from mammals after birth. It’s meant for newborns to help support their gut health provide immunity that they don’t develop in the womb.

In adults, the thought is that by consuming colostrum, we can help boost immune health and gut health and in those who are doing weightlifting help improve muscle recovery at this point the data is promising, but there’s no real evidence that colossal and adults actually support immune health, gut health or muscle recovery.

It is bovine based colostrum so for people who are lactose intolerant or don’t have good lactase in the gut, bovine colostrum can cause bloating, diarrhea, and nausea other issue with supplements like that they’re not FDA regulated eating a well balanced veggie-based diet. You’re getting all of the same benefits in something that we have better data on and doesn’t cost hundreds of dollars to find, so right now, not making the recommendation really pushing more for vegetable-based diet, but in the future that may change.
